Marie-Josèphe Jude is a French pianist, musician, and associate professor. Born in Nice in 1968, she is the sister of dancer and choreographer Charles Jude. Her father was French, and her mother was of Chinese and Vietnamese origin.
Jude studied piano at the Paris Conservatoire with Aldo Ciccolini and Jean-Claude Pennetier, and chamber music with Jean Hubeau. She also qualified as a harpist. She was a finalist in the Clara Haskil Piano Competition in 1989 and received the Victoires de la Musique award for Musical Discovery of the Year in 1995.
After meeting the French composer Maurice Ohana in 1986, Jude became one of his favored interpreters. Her repertoire also includes works by André Jolivet and Henri Dutilleux. She has given particular attention to Brahms, recording his works on five albums, and recorded Beethoven’s complete violin sonatas with violinist Pascal Fontanarosa. Her recordings also include works by Clara Schumann.
Jude has performed with singer Mireille Delunsch, clarinetist Michel Portal, and cellist Louis Claret. She has maintained a close musical partnership with pianist Jean-François Heisser, performing works for two pianos and piano four hands, including Brahms’s Hungarian Dances.
