Mikhail “Misha” Fomin is a Russian concert pianist, born on 29 December 1969 in Nalchik, southern Russia.
He began studying piano in his native Nalchik. He graduated with distinction from the Gnessin State Academy of Music in Moscow, where he studied with Lina Bulatova, a former pupil of Elena Gnessina and Heinrich Neuhaus. Fomin then served as Bulatova’s assistant for two years.
In 1996 he continued his studies at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar. In 1998 he undertook postgraduate study with Jan Wijn at the Amsterdam University of the Arts’ Sweelinck Conservatory. His further training included masterclasses with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Lazar Berman, Andrea Bonatta, Bernard Ringeissen, A. Alexandrov, and Edith Grosz.
Fomin is the artistic director of the Beethoven 2027 Foundation, which seeks to introduce classical music to a broad public.
