Paolo Giacometti is a Dutch pianist of Italian origin. He was born in Milan in 1970.
He studied with Jan Wijn at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, graduating with distinction. He became known through recordings with the cellist Pieter Wispelwey and recorded Rossini's complete piano works for Channel Classics Records.
Giacometti has won many prizes at national and international competitions. His recordings of Schumann's Humoreske, Fantasiestücke and Toccata received BBC Music Magazine's Benchmark and Performance of Outstanding Quality distinctions.
Since 2001, he has taught principal-study piano at the Faculty of Music of the Utrecht School of the Arts. From September 2010, he has also worked at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. He performs regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, including the Hamlet Trio, which he founded with violinist Candida Thompson and cellist Xenia Jankovic.
