Pierre Amoyal is a French violinist and pianist, born on 22 June 1949 in Paris. He graduated from the Paris Conservatory at the age of twelve, where Gaston Poulet and Roland Charmy were his most important teachers. He subsequently studied in Los Angeles with Jascha Heifetz.
In 1971, Amoyal made his debut with the Orchestre de Paris under Georg Solti, performing Alban Berg's Violin Concerto. From 1977 to 1986, he was a professor at the Paris Conservatory.
He lives and works in Lausanne, where he teaches at the Lausanne Conservatory. He also leads a master class in music for violin and piano with pianist Bruno Canino. Amoyal has also worked as a conductor, including conducting Mozart's singspiel The Impresario at the Lausanne Opera.
In 2006, he received the Lausanne Prize. His recordings include concertos by Giuseppe Tartini, Louis Spohr, Felix Mendelssohn, Max Bruch, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Camille Saint-Saens, Ernest Chausson, Jean Sibelius and Henri Dutilleux, as well as sonatas by Cesar Franck, Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faure, Edvard Grieg and Sergei Prokofiev.
