Rauf Atakishiyev was a Soviet Azerbaijani musician, pianist, and solo singer. He was born on July 15, 1925, in Geokchay, in the Azerbaijani SSR. He was the brother of Tahir Atakishiyev.

In 1943 he entered the Azerbaijan State Conservatory. From 1946 he studied at the Moscow State Conservatory, training in piano with K. K. Igumnov and in vocal performance with A. V. Nezhdanova.

After completing postgraduate studies in 1952, he returned to Baku. There he began performing as a pianist and as a solo singer of the Azerbaijan Opera and Ballet Theatre. From 1953 he also taught at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory.

From 1969 he headed the department of special piano. In 1967 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR, and in 1972 he received the academic title of professor.

Atakishiyev was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, the medal "In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin," and honorary certificates from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijani SSR in 1972 and of the Moldavian SSR.

Rauf Atakishiyev died on February 3, 1994.
