Roland Kriit

Roland Kriit was an Estonian and Soviet musician and clarinetist. He was born in Reval on May 31, 1917, and died in Tallinn on August 2, 1998.

From 1935 to 1940, he studied clarinet at the Tallinn Conservatory with Bruno Lukk. He continued his studies at the Latvian Conservatory in 1940–1941 and at the Moscow Conservatory with Alexander Volodin in 1943–1944.

From 1930 to 1940, Kriit played in the Tallinn Garrison Orchestra. He was a musician with the Baltic Military Brass Band from 1940 to 1942, and a clarinetist in the brass quintet of the Estonian State Art Ensemble from 1942 to 1944. In 1946–1947, he played with the Estonian SSR State Philharmonic Orchestra and also performed with the Estonian Radio Chamber Orchestra.

From 1942 to 1973, Kriit played in the Jan Tamm Quintet. He worked as concertmaster of the Tallinn Brass Band from 1983 to 1992. In 1967, he was named an Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR. He was buried at Tallinn's Forest Cemetery.
