Sofia Aleksandrovna Yalysheva is a Soviet and Russian opera and operetta singer, a lyric-coloratura soprano. She was born on 11 January 1947 in Leningrad in a family of office employees. She was awarded the title Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1983 and is also a People's Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan. She became a soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre.

In 1965, Yalysheva entered the Leningrad Conservatory at the piano faculty, studying in the class of Professor P. A. Serebryakov. After graduating in 1970, she entered the solo singing department of the same conservatory, where she studied with G. A. Kovalyova.

While still a second-year student, she won a special prize and became a laureate of the international Golden Harp competition in Belgrade. In 1971, the same year, she was invited as a soloist to the S. M. Kirov Opera and Ballet Theatre, now the Mariinsky Theatre, where she performed all the leading lyric-coloratura soprano roles.

From 1988, Yalysheva has led a solo singing class at the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg Conservatory. She also created the Sofia Yalysheva Salon at the Kochneva House on the Fontanka, which promotes classical music of various styles and directions.
