Tjako van Schie (born 17 April 1961) is a Dutch pianist, composer and music teacher. He was born in Coevorden, the Netherlands.
Van Schie studied piano with Ben Smits at the conservatory in Zwolle. Since 1994, he has worked as a répétiteur at the Amsterdam Conservatory and as a guest lecturer at the Escola Superior de Música das Artes do Espectáculo in Portugal.
He performs as a musician and pianist with several choirs, and also works as a composer and arranger. Since 1986, he has collaborated with the saxophonist Henk van Twillert, and he has also worked with the violinist Adriaan Stoet.
Van Schie performed in China in 2001 and has toured Canada, Germany, Portugal and Venezuela. He regularly appears with the Orquestra Portuguesa de Saxofones in Porto, for which he also arranges music.
From April 2012 until mid-2014, he accompanied the singer Jette van der Meij in at least eight performances presented as “Jette & Tjako.” Some formed part of Van Twillert’s “Meet the Artists” series. In 2013, Van Schie and Van Twillert also performed with Marco Bakker in Amsterdam in “Spiegel im Spiegel,” another event in the series.
His recordings as a performing pianist include Bach’s Goldberg Variations (1991), Overijssel Sings (1993), Shtil di nakht iz oysgeshternt: Yiddish Music from the Ghettos and Concentration Camps with Adriaan Stoet (1995; revised reissue 2005), Acoustic Signal (1996), Die Geigen, ja die Geigen! with Stoet (2008), A Bag of Music with Henk van Twillert (2011), and Regards to Hollywood (2018). As pianist and composer, he released Water, Source of Life in 1998.
