Valeriy Olegovich Kozlov, born on May 18, 1947, is a Soviet and Ukrainian pianist and teacher. He was awarded the title Honored Artist of Ukraine in 1994.
He received his musical education in St. Petersburg and Kyiv under the guidance of the well-known pianist Tatyana Kravchenko, a People's Artist of Russia and professor. In 1983–1984, he completed advanced training at the Moscow Conservatory with the outstanding pianist Lev Vlasenko, also a People's Artist of Russia and professor.
Kozlov began his concert performing activity while still a student. After completing postgraduate study, he toured extensively in Ukraine and abroad. He performed repeatedly with symphony orchestras under the direction of well-known conductors, including Pir from Canada, Yenson from Norway, and Kucher from Australia and Ukraine. He also made a significant number of archive recordings that are frequently broadcast on Ukrainian Radio.
Kozlov's students have become prize winners and diploma recipients at major international competitions, including the ARD Competition, the Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Poland, the Pierre Lantier Competition in France, the Dudley Competition in England, Finale Ligure in Italy, the Sergei Rachmaninoff and Sergei Prokofiev competitions in Russia, and the Krainev and Horowitz Memorial competitions in Ukraine. Among his pupils are concert performers and teachers working successfully in many countries around the world.
He has served as a jury member for many international and national competitions and regularly gives master classes at leading musical institutions in Ukraine and beyond. Kozlov is also the author and co-author of publications on musical performance and pedagogy, including works on communicativeness in musical performance, educational piano collections for early grades, and writings on musicianship and teaching.
