Valery Beluntsov was a Russian composer and specialist in the field of music-information technologies. He was born in Moscow into a family of musicians.
He graduated from the Central Music School in 1987 and from the Moscow Conservatory in 1994, where he studied composition in the class of Tikhon Khrennikov. As a composer, he worked at the Na Doskakh Theatre from 1991, at the Theremin Center for Electroacoustic Music and Multimedia from 1992, and at several radio stations, including Radio 1-Ostankino, Radio Russia, Mayak-24, and Radio Kultura.
Beluntsov was the author and host of two programs on Radio Russia, “Music. Computer. Internet” and “Virtual Music Lover.” He also taught music informatics and an original course, “Sound Synthesis and Computer Music Applications,” at the Moscow Music College. From 1995 until 2006, he served as scientific secretary of the Russian Association for Electroacoustic Music.
He was a prizewinner at international competitions and festivals, including the Concours International de Musique Electroacoustique in Bourges, France, in 1993, the Ostankino Prize in Moscow in 1994, and the Moscow Open Festival of Contemporary Tonal Academic Music. His music was performed in Russia, Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, Italy, the United States, Argentina, and Brazil.
Beluntsov was the author of about 600 musical works in various genres, including symphonic, chamber, and electroacoustic pieces, as well as songs to his own texts. He also wrote more than 20 books in various areas of computer technology, especially music-information technology. In addition, he wrote poems and novellas in Russian, Italian, English, German, Polish, and Esperanto, and a book of his poetry was published.
