Vladimir Rumyantsev (born January 12, 1987, in Stavropol) is a Russian pianist. He won the first Russian national televised Nutcracker competition in 2000 and the first M. I. Glinka Children’s Competition in 1994.
Rumyantsev grew up in a musical family. His grandfather, also named Vladimir Rumyantsev, was a musician, and his parents, Oleg Rumyantsev and Olga Kara, taught at the Stavropol Music College. He began piano lessons at four and studied from age six at Stavropol’s Music School No. 1 with E. S. Serebryakova. At seven, he took first place in his first major music competition.
From August 1999, he studied at the Gnesin Special Music School in the class of M. S. Khokhlov. He entered the Moscow Conservatory in 2004, studying with Professor S. L. Dorensky. He also studied chamber ensemble with A. G. Bakhchiev and E. G. Sorokina, and piano accompaniment with V. N. Chachava.
As a scholarship recipient of foundations supporting young talent, Rumyantsev gave concerts in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Russia. He took part in festivals in the Baltic Sea countries and in the 2009 Ballet Russes festival in Boston. He is a member of the Russian Rhapsody soloist ensemble, performs in a piano duo with Polina Sviridovskaya, and works as an accompanist and with young performers.
His competition awards include second prizes at the F. Chopin International Competition for Young Pianists in Rome in 1996 and the Step to Mastery International Competition for Young Pianists in 1997. He won first prizes at several international competitions in 1997 and the Nutcracker competition in 2000. Later awards include the Grand Prix in the chamber ensemble category at the 2009 Contemporary Art and Education competition and first prize at the A. G. Bakhchiev National Piano Duo Competition in 2011.
