Vojtech Hrimaly
Vojtech Hrimaly was a Czech composer, violinist, and conductor. He was born on July 30, 1842, in Pilsen, and died on June 15, 1908, in Vienna. He was the son of the organist Vojtech Hrimaly, the brother of Maria, Jan, Jaromir, and Bohuslav Hrimaly, and the father of Otakar Hrimaly.
In 1861, he graduated from the Prague Conservatory, where he studied with Moritz Mildner. From 1868 to 1873 he served as concertmaster of the orchestra of the Prague National Theatre. Beginning in 1874, he was conductor and director of a music school in Chernivtsi, where his pupils included Eusebius Mandyczewski. From 1887, he lived and worked in Lviv.
Hrimaly's most successful compositions were the comic operas The Enchanted Prince (1872, Prague) and Svanda the Bagpiper (1896, Pilsen). He also composed chamber and symphonic music and songs.
