Ovanes Nalbandyan was Yasha Heifetz's first teacher at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He taught Heifetz for a year and a half in 1910–1911, until Heifetz transferred directly to Leopold Auer;
Nalbandyan and Heifetz last met in Leningrad in 1934 during Heifetz's tour.
