Vladimir Horowitz studied under V. V. Pukhalsky at the Kiev Music School, which was transformed into the Kiev Conservatory in September 1913. Horowitz's mother, Sofia Yakovlevna Horowitz, was also a graduate of Pukhalsky's class at the Kiev Music School.
