Galina Fyodorova was a Soviet and Russian pianist and music teacher. She was born in Leningrad on December 24, 1925, and died in Saint Petersburg on August 17, 2024. She was also honored as a Merited Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in 1981 and became a professor at the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg Conservatory.
She studied at the Secondary Special Music School attached to the Leningrad Conservatory with L. F. Linde, L. V. Nikolayev, and S. I. Savshinsky. In 1948 she graduated from the conservatory, where she first studied with S. I. Savshinsky and later with P. A. Serebryakov. In 1952 she completed postgraduate studies in the class of P. A. Serebryakov.
From 1952 until the end of her life, Fyodorova was an artist of the Leningrad Philharmonic. At the same time, she taught a special piano class at the Leningrad Conservatory, and from 1982 she held the rank of professor.
Her playing was distinguished by seriousness of interpretive intention, exacting taste, and notable mastery. Her wide repertoire included works by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, and Beethoven. A special place in her programs was occupied by the Russian piano classics, including compositions by Glinka, Balakirev, Tchaikovsky, Rubinstein, Rachmaninoff, and Glazunov.
Fyodorova was recognized in major competitions early in her career. She won third prize at the pianists' competition within the 1st World Festival of Youth and Students in Prague in 1947, and second prize at the 1st International Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1950. Alexander Goldenweiser described her as a talented pianist with a mature, thoughtful, and subtle manner of playing.
