Vadim Bibergan is a Soviet and Russian composer, born in Moscow on January 24, 1937. He graduated from the Ural State Conservatory in 1961, studying piano with N. Poznyakovskaya and composition with V. Trambitsky. In 1967, he completed postgraduate studies at the Leningrad Conservatory under Dmitri Shostakovich.
From 1968, Bibergan taught composition at the Ural Conservatory. In 1978, he became a professor at the St. Petersburg Institute of Culture. He has also served on the juries of competitions for composers and performers.
Bibergan composed music for more than 60 films, including In the Fire There Is No Ford, The Beginning, I Ask the Floor, Theme, Vassa, Mother, and The Romanovs: An Imperial Family. He also wrote music for theatrical productions. His songs were performed by Joseph Kobzon, Eduard Khil, Valentina Tolkunova, and E. Ustinova.
For many years, he has performed as a piano duo with Vadim Palmov. His frequently performed instrumental works include the C-minor Aria for piano and folk-instrument orchestra, the polka Nora, dedicated to Nora Novik, for two pianos and eight hands, and the four-hand piano cycle Far and Near. In 1993, his piano works for ensemble received the Grand Prix and second prize at an international competition in Japan; that year he was also named Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In 2007, he received the title People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
