Vladimir Frize was a Leningrad composer. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory with V. Kalafati and V. Shcherbachov. His lyrical style was especially suited to poems by Alexander Pushkin, Alexander Blok, Sergei Yesenin, and Anna Akhmatova, which he set in many romances.
Frize also wrote the Festive Overture for symphony orchestra, the suite Northern Sketches, a symphony, a piano concerto, instrumental pieces, and music for theatrical productions. His other works included Sympho-Jazz for voice and jazz ensemble and the vocal cycle Persian Lyrics, set to poems by Yesenin. He died in 1941.
