Yevgeny Rapgof was a Russian music educator. He was born on August 25, 1859, in St. Petersburg and died on March 17, 1919, in Petrograd.
He graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1880 as a pianist, having studied with Vladimir Pukhalovsky and Karl van Ark. He subsequently continued his training under Theodor Leschetizky and gave concerts throughout Russia.
With his brother, the music publisher and writer Ippolit Rapgof, he founded the Higher Courses in Piano Playing in St. Petersburg, which became known as the Y. P. Rapgof Music Courses. Rapgof directed the institution for many years. From 1894 he also taught at the Nicholas Orphan Institute, and after 1917 he taught at the Seventh District School of Musical Education.
Rapgof compiled several pedagogical collections for piano instruction, including six issues of Collected Studies, six issues of the Great School of Technique, and the Recueil des compositions classiques et modernes, a collection of 200 piano pieces. From 1888 to 1898, he was a music critic for the newspaper Sankt Petersburger Herold.
